unnamedPhyllis E. Olson of Cadillac died Saturday, January 28, 2012 at her home. She was 82. She was born on March 6, 1929 in Detroit to Ira K. & Marian E. (Barnes) Braidwood.

She graduated from Cadillac High School in 1947 and attended Central Michigan University for two years. On September 25, 1948 in Cadillac she married Albert W. Olson, Jr. and he preceded her in death on June 27, 1998.

Phyllis had worked at Tri-County Handicap School and was involved with 4-H and developed the Fine Art Program for them. She was a charter member of the Cadillac Area Council for the Arts since 1968 and had served as Chairman, Secretary, Publicity and Festival Chairman. Phyllis was also a charter member of the Cadillac Area Artist Association since 1972 and had served as President, Secretary,Treasurer, Program, Publicity, and Arts Council Representative. For 25 years she served as the Superintendent of the Art Department for the Northern District Fair. Phyllis had received numerous awards for her art over the years. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Cadillac where she taught Sunday school and made over 40 banners for the sanctuary.

Survivors include her daughters: Christy Ann (Dale) Knight and Jan Barnes all of Cadillac; grandchildren: Matt (Tonya), Jennifer, and Kristie; 10 great grandchildren; brother, Rick (Patty) Braidwood of Saginaw; sister, Marilyn (Bob) Gray of South Carolina.

Phyllis was the face and the heart of the Cadillac Area Artists’ Association for over 40 years. Her wit, wisdom, and artistic vision will be missed by all.
